Remembering APJ Abdul Kalam on His 115th Birthday

Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, also known as the” Bullet Man of India”, was a famed aerospace scientist and statesman who served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. He was born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, and passed away on July 27, 2015, at the age of 83. 

 

 Kalam was a visionary leader who played a vital part in India’s space and bullet programs. He was also a fat pen and speaker, and his words of alleviation continue to motivate people all over the world.

 Early Life and Education 

 Kalam was born into a poor family in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. He had four sisters and one family. His father, Jainulabdeen, was a boat proprietor and imam of an original synagogue, and his mama, Ashiamma, was a housewife. 

 

 Despite his humble onsets, Kalam was a bright and ambitious pupil. He completed his scale in drugs from the Madras Institute of Technology( MIT) in 1954. He also went on to study aerospace engineering at the Indian Institute of Science( IISc) in Bangalore. 

 

 

 Career 

 After graduating from IISc, Kalam joined the Defence Research and Development Organisation( DRDO) in 1958. He worked on a number of important systems, including the development of the SLV-3 rocket, which launched India’s first satellite, Aryabhata, into space in 1975. 

 

 In the 1980s, Kalam played a crucial part in the development of India’s bullet program. He was the Director of the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program( IGMDP) from 1982 to 1992. Under his leadership, India developed and successfully tested a number of dumdums, including the Prithvi, Agni, and Akash dumdums. 

 

 In 1992, Kalam was appointed the Scientific Advisor to the Raksha Mantri( Minister of Defence). He held this position for four times, during which time he oversaw the development of India’s nuclear munitions program. 

 

 In 2002, Kalam was tagged the 11th President of India. He served one term as President and retired in 2007. After his withdrawal, he continued to work as an aerospace scientist and pen. He also gave motivational addresses to scholars and youthful professionals all over the world.
